"Otsujito" was created in the Edo period by Hara Nanyo, a renowned medical doctor, as a Kampo prescription specializing in "jishi" (a condition characterized by a wide range of symptoms). The prescription was subsequently improved and is still widely used today.
Its gentle laxative action regulates bowel movements.
It is effective for hemorrhoids, anal fissures, and mild rectal prolapse in people with moderate or higher physical strength, who have hard stools, and who tend to be constipated.
